| Decision | Canva QR generator | Tidy QR |
|---|---|---|
| Free access | Canva currently documents free static and dynamic QR generation. | Static creation with no account, subscription or scan counter. |
| Code lifetime | The page says codes remain valid, subject to platform rules and any configured expiry settings. | The payload stays in the image. A linked website still needs to stay available. |
| Recorded price | Free generator; broader subscription prices not compared | $0 for the implemented static tools. |
| Output workflow | Review the vendor's current export and account options. | Local SVG, PNG and vector-module PDF, with image decoding before export. |
Where Canva QR generator is a better fit
Canva is better when the QR is part of a wider design project: a flyer, invitation, presentation or business card. Its current documentation includes both static and dynamic codes, editing and sharing within designs. Business and Enterprise features include custom-logo options and scan insights.
Where the workflows differ
The current free workflow has Canva branding, and advanced controls depend on the plan. Older comparisons describing Canva as static-only no longer match the page checked here. Tidy QR focuses on a local standalone generator with explicit payload inspection and files you can place in any layout tool.
A concrete choice
For a designed invitation, the convenient choice may be to create the code within the same editor. Inspect whether the selected code is static or dynamic and test the final exported invitation. If you need local generation first, download a Tidy QR SVG or PNG and place it into the design without cropping its margin.
Check the actual image before committing
Download a sample from the exact option you intend to use. Read the image with a separate scanner and compare the full payload with your intended destination. A direct address and a provider's redirect address can look identical on paper while creating different account dependencies.
Keep a copy of that decoded content with the final artwork. If the project depends on destination editing or reporting, review the vendor's terms for that selected plan, including what happens when an allowance is reached or billing stops. If the project only needs a stable destination, a static code can link to a page whose content you update yourself.
Test the final physical output, not just the preview. Phone recognition, lighting, material and the destination page all affect the visitor's experience. The comparison above describes documented product terms, not a measured ranking of scan speed or reliability.
