| Decision | QR Code Generator (Bitly) | Tidy QR |
|---|---|---|
| Free access | Free static codes for URL, vCard, text, SMS, email, WiFi and Bitcoin. | Static creation with no account, subscription or scan counter. |
| Code lifetime | The vendor says its static codes do not expire. A destination can still disappear. | The payload stays in the image. A linked website still needs to stay available. |
| Recorded price | Free static generator; paid PRO price not verified | $0 for the implemented static tools. |
| Output workflow | Review the vendor's current export and account options. | Local SVG, PNG and vector-module PDF, with image decoding before export. |
Where QR Code Generator (Bitly) is a better fit
The public generator covers common static payloads and has extensive explanations for nontechnical users. It can be a good fit when you want an established static workflow with an optional move into its separate managed product. Its own FAQ clearly separates free static output from editable, tracked codes.
Where the workflows differ
Tidy QR emphasizes local processing, visible payload inspection and vector exports in the same browser workflow. A vendor name or a free label does not establish whether a particular file contains a direct URL. Read the downloaded image to confirm what was actually selected in either product.
A concrete choice
For a restaurant menu, make a code containing the stable menu URL and inspect it before printing. The free static option already solves that job. If the requirement changes to centrally managed redirects or scan reporting, evaluate a service designed for those needs instead of assuming a static image can acquire them later.
Check the actual image before committing
Download a sample from the exact option you intend to use. Read the image with a separate scanner and compare the full payload with your intended destination. A direct address and a provider's redirect address can look identical on paper while creating different account dependencies.
Keep a copy of that decoded content with the final artwork. If the project depends on destination editing or reporting, review the vendor's terms for that selected plan, including what happens when an allowance is reached or billing stops. If the project only needs a stable destination, a static code can link to a page whose content you update yourself.
Test the final physical output, not just the preview. Phone recognition, lighting, material and the destination page all affect the visitor's experience. The comparison above describes documented product terms, not a measured ranking of scan speed or reliability.
