What non-expiring means

A direct static payload stays encoded in the image. Tidy QR does not use a hosted redirect or a scan counter for its output. If you print a WiFi configuration, contact or plain text, the image keeps that content. If you print a URL, continued usefulness depends on that URL and the service behind it.

A dynamic workflow adds a managed address between the image and the final page. The image remains readable, but what the redirect returns depends on the provider and the account. That can be a useful tradeoff when destination editing is important. It should be a deliberate choice rather than a surprise discovered after printing.

What the vendors document

A code-lifetime check you can perform

Read the downloaded image before adding it to a design. Copy the full decoded payload into your project record. If the host belongs to a generator, check the exact account and plan that control that redirect. If it belongs to you, verify that you can maintain the domain and page without changing the printed address.

Do not treat a successful scan during a trial as proof of future availability. A trial tests present access. The provider's current terms describe the ongoing offer, and even those can change. For long-lived material, retain source files so the artwork can be replaced if circumstances change.

A worked example

A museum label links directly to its own exhibit page. Updating the text on that page does not require changing the static QR image. Moving the page to a different address without retaining the old route would break the visitor's journey, even though the printed symbol still decodes correctly. Maintaining the address is the relevant operational task.

Keep an alternative visible

Print a short readable address or contact route beside the code. It helps visitors verify where the code leads and gives them a path when their camera, network or device is unavailable. Check both the image and the destination whenever the underlying content changes.
